I'm probably the last person you would have associated with the word 'bold' a few years ago, but fast forward to now (when I'm no longer a teenager *sobs*) deep colours, and especially vampy lips have soon started to become my new obsession. So it's only appropriate I pair them up with my favourite deeper nail polishes. Although for all the nail polishes I do covet, the truth is I'm a lazy bean who can rarely be bothered to paint her nails anymore. I might make that into a resolution this year: stop collecting and start wearing!
First up we have China Glaze 255 RAVISHING DAHLING. This is a really deep oxblood shade, however with one coat it comes up as quite a bright pink which I found very strange. 2 coats rectifies this and it's much more true to colour. It does have a tendency to look like a really deep red so you have to go in with a full layer if you want that bold look.
Rimmel I love Lasting Finish in 193 BLACK CHERRIES is one I picked up in Poundland (here). This is a deep purple with a slight golden metallic sheen. With one layer this does look quite streaky as I found the formula a bit too dry, however with 2 layers you would never be able to tell and it looks fine. This was definitely a bargain purchase and whilst the formula isn't quite on par with the others I really like the way the shade turns out.
Butter London isn't a brand I try out very much so this polish in PITTER PATTER was quite an unexpected addition. It's more of a vibrant purple, compared to the Rimmel offering which is very deep, but this one has slight golden specks in it. The formula is very smooth and easy to apply.
OPI nail lacquer in Purple-iscious is more of a glittery top coat than a base shade for me. The pinky-purple shade has very fine glitter particles on the same colour running through it. However, they're perfectly intertwined within the polish so it doesn't have that crunchy feel or look that you can sometimes get with glittery top coats. It could be worn on it's own but you need atleast 2 coats as it isn't opaque in one.
Now onto my favourite of the bunch: OPI nail lacquer in MALAGA WINE! I absolutely adore this shade, 2 winters ago this was all I wore! It's a very deep burgundy wine shade, although I'm a bit gutted that in the swatches it comes off as a very deep red. The formula of this is perfect, you can get full opaqueness in one swatch but I apply two to get the wine shade. What's even more amazing is that I still have most of it left and back when I got it I certainly wasn't as lazy with my nails as I am now!
Lastly, Nails Inc Hanover Square was one of the polishes I picked up in a Glamour issue (here). I will admit that I don't find some of the Nails Inc formulas to be the best but I can't fault this one! One coat of this would probably be enough on it's own for the deep oxblood/maroon colour to come though. The formula was also very smooth and gave a lovely finish.
ONE COAT
TWO COATS
Overall, with all of these polishes (apart from the Rimmel one I mentioned) I found the formula to be really good, the brushes were all decent sizes too so it didn't take ages to coat each nail and there weren't any streaks left behind either.
I hope you enjoyed this post!
What are your favourite polishes?
Your swatches were such a great help, sometimes nail polishes look so different! I love the black cherries and pitter patter. I've never actually tried any Butter London nail polishes, I should give them try!
