For a bit of background I've been wearing glasses since I was about 12, and I started wearing contacts a few years ago, mainly on weekdays. I think glasses have started being seen as more trendy in the last couple of years. However, as much as I wish I did, I really don't suit glasses at all, and hence the contacts. I think contacts do let you experiment with your makeup more, they can also be more convenient, it's better than stacking glasses on when you go to see a 3D movie! Saying that, glasses also have their positives, for example your eyes don't dry out as much when sitting at a screen all day when wearing glasses.
Although at first I did find putting contacts in a bit difficult as poking yourself in the eye doesn't really come naturally, but you do get used to it. I use monthly contacts, so basically the same pair for 30 days but you have to clean them thoroughly after each use. There are also dailys, such as the focus dailies by Feel Good Contacts, which are good for those of you who don't wear contacts so often as this way you're only paying for each use which might work out cheaper.
So to sum it up I prefer both contacts or glasses based on the situation, and here's some tips if you're a fellow glasses/contacts wearer:
- Eyebrows are said to frame your whole face, and I think this definitely applies to those who wear glasses. I'm not going to go on about how they must be precisely filled in because actually they don't! Not everyone's eyebrows need to look the same, and I've got a confession to make; I've never filled mine in! I groom them (tidy the strays away), but I like to leave the natural shape and thickness.
- One of the tips I've heard is to go in with heavy eyeliner to bring your eyes out, but I think this assumes that everyone wears those big, round glasses. Whereas, I'm the total opposite. I have a smallish face and so I stick with the smaller glasses, so basically the Harry Potter style ones. Due to my frames being so small a finer line would work better for me.
- Applying eyeliner in your lower waterline can also be a great trick. Sometimes it is advised not to tightline with contacts in, as the formula can get transaferred to your contacts, but I've found a creamy eyeliner with little fallout (like the Rimmel Scandaleyes range) works fine. If your lenses make your eyes look smaller, a nude liner in the waterline will help counter this.
- If you find it difficult to play up your eyes, then try making your lips the focal point! I think a statement lip looks amazing with glasses.
I hope you enjoyed this post!
Do you have any tips for glasses/contact wearers?

Glasses can be infuriating, especially when they keep falling off, but they're quick to put on and you don't get dry eyes with them :)
DeleteThis is such an interesting post. I myself don't wear glasses nor contacts but I'm going to pass these tips onto people I know as this will help them! Also your popular posts widget blurry.

Aww thank you! Yep I think there's a glitch but I'm not too sure how to fix it, the coding is a bit confusing but I'm going to have another go :)
DeleteThanks for your advice darling! ^-^
ReplyDeleteOne more tips for those you wear glasses is to use matt/opaque eyeshadows instead of shimmery one, cause they can create bad reflects on glasses!

Thank you, that's a great tip :)
DeleteI wear glosses when I can't see the TV or at the cinema, places like that and I always get those annoying indents that rub off your make up on your nose, I wish there was a way to prevent that other than contacts!

It is better at your eyes though if you're staring at screens, with contacts your eyes can dry out so I have to apply drops :)
DeleteI should wear glasses but I only wear them whenever my eyes are tired, I know it is not the right thing to do. Whenever I know I will be wearing glasses, I make sure to pay more attention to my brows and eyeliner.

I would love it if my eyesight was good enough to go without sometimes, so don't be too hard on yourself!
DeleteI don't wear glasses but I can imagine how much more difficult it is to create your makeup look around them. You have some great tips here though x

It can be a bit tiring, hence why it's nice to mix it up with contacts every now and again :)

I've tried a few different styles out but still no luck, I think I need a customised pair haha :)
DeleteI used to wear glasses all the time until I got contacts, which I just find easier in general now that I've gotten so used to them. Occasionally I do like to wear my glasses though, but I like to go heavier on the eye makeup whenever I do so, particularly eyeshadow as opposed to liner. I usually want to make my eyes pop! ;)

Delete100% agree with the tip on the eyebrow but how lucky that you can get away without filling them in. Mine are so wonky and sparse, I spent 20 minutes filling mine in everyday.

Aww it's not all fun having really full ones either, there's all the maintenance xx
DeleteThere's some great tips here that I will definitely be trying out. I have recently started wearing my glasses so much more as I moved from a job where I was on my feet all day to one where I am sat at a desk looking at a computer so I have to wear them so much more. It's good to have some ideas on how I can imprve my makeup as you have to think differently when you're wearing your glasses. x
ReplyDeleteStaring at a screen can play havoc, I used to have to put in drops 3 times a day but it's gone a lot better recently!
DeleteThese are some really good tips for ones who wear glasses and lenses. I am still safe from them but looks like it will not be too long.

ReplyDeleteI think if I was to start wearing glasses, I would stick to mascara & a little bit of eye shadow and would go bolder on the lips, just like you advised.
