However, when Perfume Click got in touch with me about trying something from their website, I thought to myself well it's finally time I gave it a go. They kindly gave me a £35 gift card towards the purchase, and I paid the difference. I got the 30ml version (see here), so I could get a better idea before I invested in a 50/100ml bottle. Their website is worth checking out as they have some great offers on sometimes, especially with their Black Friday sales that are now on. I've scrolled through some myself and these ones really caught my eye; Vera Wang Princess 100ml for £22.90 here, Estee Lauder Modern Muse 30ml for £27.15 here (I love this one too), and they have my favourite Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau so Fresh for £55.55 for 125ml here.
Moving on, the website was really use and my order actually came quite fast with standard delivery, and it was also tracked. It made a really nice present when I came home for one of the weekends (I like treating myself when I'm on the move! It helps cheer me up haha).
I thought the packaging was really fitting too, with the dark glitter themes on the box matching with the glittery bottle, and the addition of some rose gold (which always goes down well!). The bottle is actually smaller than I expected, I can fit it comfortably in the palm of my hand, so that was interesting at first because I was like how did they manage to fit 30ml into this?! I love the little circle in the middle though, it's handy to see how much you have left, and I think it adds to the whole edgy look of the bottle. The cap with the Yves Saint Laurent stamped on it is a nice touch too!
In regards to the scent, I''m not the best at describing these, but the perfume is supposed to be a glam rock interpretation of the classic Opium (which I've never tried personally). It has main notes of coffee, which then follows with notes of pink pepper, orange blossom, jasmine, vanilla, patchouli and cedar. I actually never drink coffee and I don't like the smell of it either, so I was a bit surprised when I was researching the notes before I brought it.
When I first spray it I really get the vanilla coming through (it''s also quite strong initially), then that quickly dies down quite a bit to give a thicker, sweet scent (on me I think the fragrance gets a bit muted at this point so I really have to give it a sniff). I wouldn't say it screams dark and mysterious (like I was expecting), but at the same time it is more suited to Autumn/Winter. It isn't an incredibly strong scent (well on me), but at the same time I don't think you want to spray too much at once as it can start feeling a bit heady. The wear time is average (so no more than 6 hours on me), but it does leave a nice, warm scent on your clothing. It is a perfume that I'm glad I own and one I would take out for occasions, but I would strongly recommend you try it out a few times because 1) it's not really true to how you expect it to be from the advert (I find it to be weaker and the scent wasn't exactly what I was expecting) and 2) it does come up differently on everyone so it is down to personal preference.
I know this was a bit of a mixed review but I am still struggling to make sense of this perfume in a way, when I asked my Sister she said she thought it was quite flowery! Black Opium is an enigma! I'm sure I'll get a lot more use of it in the coming months though (so I can always report back), I reckon it's the definite choice for the Christmas German markets. Personally I find it to be a bit too much to wear for work, so it's mainly weekends and evenings I reserve it for.
I hope you enjoyed this post!
What are your thoughts on Black Opium?
I haven't purchased a perfume in ages, I am using mostly body mists and I also carry one with me in my bag to re-apply during the day. I need to try this next time I go shopping! x

Lovely to hear your thoughts on this perfume, the packaging is super chic, and I love the rose gold/black glitter. Designer perfumes always have such a glamourous feel to them. Vera Wang Princess is a nice perfume too, I’ve had that one in the past. I’m currently using ‘Paperback’ by The Library of Fragrance, and it’s perfect for autumn/winter. :-) xx

I've heard great things about the library of fragrance, I'm yet to try them x
DeleteI've always thought Black Opium as very fruity and leans more towards sweet. Funny how different each individual interprets a scent.
ReplyDeleteShireen⎜Reflection of Sanity
Yes, I definitely think sometimes fragrances appear different on everyones skin x
DeleteIn love with this perfume, it was a little before I could afford to splurge on this but it is one of my favourites!! Perfect for winter in my opinion!! :) Great post! x
ReplyDeleteIt's never on offer, is it?! It is, I love it for the evenings too x
DeleteI keep seeing the adverts for this and keep meaning to try it! Appreciate your honest thoughts and may need to invest in another perfume for Christmas.

It is really glam, I love the glitter detailing x
DeleteI've always seen this around but never think to give it a whiff! I have way too many perfumes on hand already, so I'm not in the market for another, but the packaging is a huge draw in!
ReplyDeleteSam / My Beauty Cloud
Haha I know that struggle of trying to limit perfumes, but wanting to try each hyped release x
Deletefunnily enough black opium seems to smell different to everyone! to me it's spicy and floraly, and makes me feel v v sexy, something i'd use for a date night. but some other people use it as an everyday kind of scent!
ReplyDeletebecky @ star violet
For me, I don't think it would be an everyday scent as it's too deep on me to wear to work, but yes it is really interesting how it seems to work so differently for everyone x
DeleteI'm in love with this perfume, it's perfect for this time of year! This website sounds so good too xx
ReplyDeleteHannah | luxuryblush
It does scream winter nights to me! x
DeleteOkay, so this scent sounds like one I'd really love! I'm a huge coffee lover, so that's all I really needed to read, haha. Plus, how cute is the packaging?! I'll have to forward this over to the hubby ;) Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a great week ahead!

I think you'll definitely love it, I think it gets the spiceness from the coffee but a bit more toned down x
DeleteThat's actually one of my go-to perfumes for the last one or two years. I first bought a tiny 30 ml bottle, finished it and now moved onto a bigger bottle. It's feminine and easy for me wear; I wouldn't say it is very "unique" but it is quite sexy for sure. Great review dear! x
ReplyDeleteNaya // partyparrotblog.com
Oh wow it's great to hear you like it as well, infact it's growing on me more x
DeleteGreat bottle. I remember my mum bought so many years ago.

DeleteSounds like a beautiful fragrance! Thanks for the review
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteI tested this the other day but didn't pick it up because I really don't need anymore perfumes haha but it smells divine xx
ReplyDeletetipscapsule.blogspot.com
It does, haha I know that struggle :)
DeleteAhh, it can always be tricky because perfumes react differently to people's skin, right?! I have the floral version of this YSL fragrance and loooove it! Will have to test this for myself sometime when i'm next in a department store. Thanks for the thorough reviews, I'm certainly curious about the scent now! :)

They definitely too! Oh I've ordered a sample of the floral version, so looking forward to trying that out x
DeleteThat's such a great perfume. I have samples and I love it. I need to get the full size. Love the packaging so much!

DeleteBlack Opium is in my top 5 favourite perfumes and I wore it almost every single day in winter or on summer evenings out. This makes me want to dust her off again heheh <3
ReplyDeleteStacey, thebambieyes.com
Oh wow you should definitely dust it off haha!
DeleteBlack Opium is a nice sent, I do like fragrance with vanilla notes although personally prefer something a little deeper in terms of scent.

I agree, it wasn't as deep or mysterious as I was expecting, but it is growing on me! x
DeleteI've never tried this scent before, but the bottle is beautiful! The scent sounds very lush as well, and I like all the notes you listed. I agree that perfume should ideally be tried on in person, because it can smells so different in bottle than on our skin!
ReplyDeleteJenny | Geeky Posh
Definitely, you should give it a try if you spot it instore x
DeleteI love the packaging! I love perfume that has a more masculine tone and not too sweet! I'll definitely have to go and see what this one is like :)
